Chapperstee Mosaics Chapperstee Mosaics: Romano British Mosaics

Welcome!

This is a new blog of mine about mosaics. I have always loved mosaics and I have experimented with making some of my own. See My Mosaics. I am also enjoy visiting historical sites most of these are from Roman times or just after. There are also a lot of Public Mosiacs that people often walk past without noticing. These can all be seen on the page links above.

Romano British Mosaics

Fishbourne Palace

One of the biggest Romano British Villas is in Fishbourne Sussex. This site was discovered in 1960 by a farmer cutting a water-main trench. There are a number of mosaics on the site as well as the remains of a villa and a rich variety of archaeological findings. Here are some of the mosaics I photographed on a visit there in 2006.

Dorset County Museum - Dorchester

There are some mosaics in the Victorian hall of the Dorchester County Museum. These are the remains of Romans houses excavated in the town in 1905 from Dungate Sttreet. There is a central floral design and geometric patterns.
